Building upon many years of teaching, coaching and public speaking experience, I began current course development by reviewing previous iterations of a course on storytelling, compiling thoughts on effective storytelling with data, the history leading up to the present state of the field, along with the best practices in storytelling emphasizing recent revelations in the nature of the mind, trauma and healing within the personal body and the body at-large - the wider community.
My goal was to advance a storytelling methodology that helps to clarify and enhance the role that stories and storytelling play in the very advancement of humanity itself. My goal is to - like stories - add value so "1 + 1 = 3".
The truth is - stories can be harmful - used to oppress or exploit - just as they can be helpful. The ethical storyteller leans toward the light by emphasizing shared values and our highest aspirations - our missions and visions - not merely bottom line profit.
This course started small a few years ago, and has grown since. The end result was a three day, nine hour live video course in storytelling with data - "Turning Data Into Drama." It's just the beginning of an exciting new journey.
